I ❤️ NY / American Typewriter

I LOVE NY

“I Love NY” is not just a logo, but also the slogan for NY state. While it was originally designed as a marketing campaign for the entire state, the logo has come to be closely associated with New York City. It was designed by Milton Glaser in 1970s to complement Wells Rich Greene’s advertising campaign slogan “I Love New York”. Originally the letter I, followed by heart and letters NY were all on the same line, but overtime Glaser decided to stack I and heart on a line above NY, similar to Robert Indiana’s LOVE pop art.

American Typewriter Typeface

According to Wikipedia, American Typewriter is a slab-serif typeface created in 1974 by Joel Kaden and Tony Stan for International Typeface Corporation. It is based on the slab serif style of typewriters; however, unlike most true typewriter fonts, it is a proportional design i.e. the characters do not all have the same width, making it easy for setting text and reading.
